AQUAPERL is a specially formulated perlite specifically developed for the aquatics industry. It is an organic substance meant for use in D.E. filters, Regenerative filters, and even in sand and cartridge, as a double coat. Due to its unique properties, perlite has a much higher solid and oil holding capacity than D.E. and sand, allowing it to better trap and retain dirt. This, together with its lower density, allows for a uniform pre-coat thickness and deposition on the filter element, making it the ideal filter media solution.
Summary of advantages:
- Unique organic properties to trap and retain dirt better than D.E. powder (details below).
- Lighter weight than D.E. media. As perlite usage amount depends on the volume, not weight, less perlite is needed, by weight, to coat a D.E. filter compared to D.E. media.
- No impact on taste, colour, or ordour in fluids at all temperatures.
- Easy disposal due to being deemed as a Generally Recognised as Safe (GRAS) substance by the US FDA.
- Non-hazardous, unlike D.E. media. Perlite contains far less crystalline silica (<0.1% vs 40% in D.E.) which is a known carcinogenic substance for humans.

Unique properties of Perlite Filter Aid
include its jagged interlocking morphology and microscopic channels allowing efficient flowrates and water clarity. In comparison to D.E., Perlite has a higher solid and oil holding capacity and lower density allowing for uniform pre-coat thickness and deposition on element.
